Set Up Subspaces

Overview

Subspaces help you organize your community into meaningful groups.

Instead of placing everything in one space, subspaces allow you to create focused environments for different topics, member groups, or regions.

Think of subspaces as distinct areas inside your community, each with its own sections, discussions, and events.

When to Use Subspaces

Subspaces are useful when your community has:

  • multiple topics

  • different member groups

  • regional chapters

  • specialized programs

Subspaces keep discussions focused and easier to navigate.

How to Create a Subspace

Subspaces help you organize your community into focused groups for discussions, events, resources, and collaboration.

You can create a subspace in two different ways.

Method 1 — From the Subspaces Menu

  1. In the left sidebar, find the Subspaces section.

  2. Click the + icon next to Subspaces.

  3. The Create sub-space window will open.

Method 2 — From the Create Menu

  1. Click the + Create button at the top of the platform.

  2. Select Sub-space from the dropdown menu.

  3. The Create sub-space window will open.

Configure Your Subspace

Once the creation window opens, fill in the following details.

Logo

Upload a visual icon or logo for the subspace.

This helps members quickly recognize the group in the sidebar navigation.

Name

Enter the name of your subspace.

Examples:

  • Donor Circles

  • Product Leaders

  • New York Chapter

  • AI Research

Choose a name that clearly reflects the purpose of the group.

Description

Add a short description explaining what the subspace is for.

This helps members understand:

  • what topics are discussed

  • who should participate

  • what kind of activities happen inside

Access Type

Choose how members can access the subspace.

Open

Anyone in the space can see and join the subspace.

Private

The subspace is visible, but members must be invited to join.

Secret

Only invited members can see the subspace.

Use this when you want to create smaller working groups or leadership circles.

Moderators (Optional)

You can assign one or more subspace moderators.

Moderators can:

  • manage subspace settings

  • create or remove sections

  • moderate posts and comments

  • manage flagged content

  • pin or unpin posts

Moderators help maintain discussions and activity within the subspace.

Create the Subspace

After completing the fields, click Create sub-space.

The new subspace will immediately appear in the Subspaces section of the sidebar.

Best Practices

Start with a small number of focused subspaces.

Most communities work best with 3–6 subspaces initially.

As your community grows, you can add new subspaces to support new topics, programs, or member groups.

Examples of Subspaces

Common subspace structures include:

Topic-based

  • AI Research

  • Product Strategy

  • Venture Capital

Member-stage based

  • New Members

  • Operators

  • Leaders Circle

Regional chapters

  • New York

  • London

  • Berlin

💡 Why Subspaces Matter

Without structure, conversations become scattered.

Subspaces create:

  • clearer navigation

  • focused discussions

  • better member discovery

  • scalable community organization

They allow your community to grow without becoming chaotic.
